The Philippines filters will be maintained by the locals and last for decades. Instead of spending their limited income on expensive, emergency trips to the local clinic for preventable waterborne illnesses, these families can now keep their children healthy and in school. Statistically, by keeping working adults healthy and eliminating emergency medical bills, your $200 donation will generate over $4,000 in direct economic savings for these families over the lifespan of the systems. This is huge because the average annual income in these communities is only about $2,000. This filter will also prevent hundreds of illnesses among young children in the community.
